CATARACT

It is the clouding of the natural crystalline Lens. Most commonly it is Age related. Cataract surgery with inserting an intraocular lens (IOL) will rectify this condition.

DIABETIC RETINOPATHY

Diabetes can affect retina in various ways. Where small blood vessels leak and cause swelling in the retina (macular edema) and in later stages cause bleeding in the eye (Vitreous haemorrhage) and even retinal detachment. Treatment in form of injections in the eye can cure macular edema and recover the vision. Bleeding and retinal detachment may sometimes require surgery to treat it.

DROPPED NUCLEUS

It is the complication of the cataract surgery, in which the cataract (nucleus) falls of the retina during cataract surgery. It was be tackled/ removed with vitrectomy with good outcomes.

DROPPED IOL

It is he condition in which the artificial lens (IOL) falls on the retina during cataract surgery or later after cataract surgery. It can be due to various causes. Surgery (Vitrectomy) is required to remove the IOL and replace it with other special kind of IOL with different technique. Sometimes the same lens (IOL) can be fixed with a special technique with either a suture or glue.

ENDOPHTHALMITIS

It is a serious complication of the cataract surgery. It is an EMERGENCY. Early treatment can sometimes help in recovering good vision. Treatment in form of antibiotic injections inside the eye and eye drops is required. Surgery (Vitrectomy) may be required in majority of cases for early vision recovery.

AGE RELATED MACULAR DEGENERATION

It is the leading cause of vision loss in elderly above 65 years. It can be in two forms 1.Dry form and 2. Wet form. Dry form will need some form of multivitamins to stop the progression to wet form. The wet form may need injection in the eye to stop/ improve vision loss.

VASCULAR OCCLUSION

These are various disorder in which the blood vessels of retina get blocked : 1. Artery - Central retinal artery Occlusion (CRAO), Branch retinal artery occlusion (BRAO) . 2. Vein- Central vein occlusion (CRVO), Branch Retinal Vein occlusion (BRVO). These disorder are mostly caused by systemic problems like Diabetes and hypertension. Now-days, vision loss by these can be cured with injections in the eye.

CENTRAL SEROUS CHORIORETINOPATHY

It is the disease mostly affecting young males, though females can also be affected, specially during pregnancy causing blurred vision. In this disease there is accumulation of fluid between the retinal layers (neurosensory retina and RPE). It is mostly associated with stress and steroid use. It is mostly self resolving, but sometimes will need treatment in form of laser.

MACULAR HOLE

It is the disorder of Vitreomacular interface in which there is defect (Hole) in the central part of the retina (macula). OCT confirms the diagnosis. It causes loss of central vision. It is normal treated with surgery (vitrectomy with gas inside the eye).

HIGH MYOPIA

It is the abnormality in some people with high minus number (more than - 5.00 Dioptre). The retina in these can be associated with number of problems like, macular hole, retinal detachment, new vessels formation etc leading to vision loss. All these will need timely and early intervention to prevent irreversible vision loss.

ROP SCREENING AND TREATMENT

It is the disease of premature babies with low birth weight and exposure to oxygen. It is a BLINDING DISEASE if proper timely screening of these premature babies is not done. Sometimes it will need treatment if form of LASER or INJECTIONS in the eye. The later stages of this disease will need surgery with very poor outcomes.

EYE TRAUMA

Sometimes the eye can be ruptured due to sharp object or blunt trauma during ROAD SIDE ACCIDENTS, FIGHTS, WORKING IN FACTORY etc etc. There is tear in the outer wall of eye (Cornea/ sclera). It is an EMERGENCY situation. SURGERY is required to close the eye as early as possible. Sometimes multiple surgeries are required in this situation to save the eye.

UVEITIS

It is the inflammation of the eye, sometimes causing pain, redness in the eyes with sudden visual loss. It is an emergency and will need early treatment to prevent irreversible vision loss.

RETINITIS PIGMENTOSA

It is a hereditary disorder in which the night vision is affected first and in later stages the day vision also get affected. As of now there is no standard treatment to cure or stop the progression of this disease. However we can treat the complications which can improve the vision to some extent like cataract, retinal detachment etc.
